Fatemeh Rastegar Jooybari is a Work Study Student contributing to the Cinema Iranica project and related Institute websites. Fatemeh has a considerable background in biomedical engineering, medical imaging, and programming. Her master’s thesis, “Online Reconstruction of Magnetic Resonance Images with Radial Acquisition through Polar Fourier Transform,” utilized her extensive programming skills in medical imaging devices. She is an expert in several programming languages (e.g., C++, C#, Python, and Shell Scripts) and has used her knowledge in her field of medical imaging, both during the course of her studies and later as part of her work experience designing engineering user interfaces and websites. She has authored many publications, including papers in both English and Persian, and is the co-author of a Persian book.

“I have been a research team member at the Elahé Omidyar Mir-Djalali Institute of Iranian Studies since 2022. In this role, I have collaborated on three projects: Iranian Studies, Women Poets, and Iranian Cinema.

In my previous role as a work-study student in the fall of 2023 and winter of 2024, I worked closely with other team members to prepare and upload content to the EOM, Women Poet, and Iranian Cinema websites, as well as the EOM YouTube channels. This primarily involved managing events and media on the EOM website, and curating content for the Cinema Iranica website. Additionally, I assisted newer team members by providing instructions for tasks such as editing articles, correcting content format and references, and organizing content on different sections of the websites.

Being part of the Iranian Institute team has provided me with numerous benefits, including the opportunity to attend seminars and gatherings to learn more about Iran’s history, art, and culture. This has fostered a sense of connection to the Canadian-Iranian community. It has been an enriching experience to be mentored by more experienced team members while also gaining mentoring experience by assisting newer team members in their onboarding process. Working within a large team has enhanced my teamwork skills significantly.

In summary, the Institute is distinguished by its exceptional role as a vital center for learning and community, promoting values such as a sense of community and culture, and serving as a model for how academic pursuits can be interconnected and impactful.”
