Sepideh Raissadat is a PhD candidate at the University of Toronto, and her dissertation is titled “The Lives of Iranian Female Singers since 1979.” She received the Canadian government’s Doctoral Scholarship Award (Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGS) and has appeared as a guest speaker on a range of subjects related to Iranian music, with speaking appearances at numerous universities such as UCLA, Yale, Washington, Cologne, and Bologna. Her academic research is deeply related to her experience as a professional singer. Raissadat began to study the repertoire of Persian music (Radif) at the age of ten with the Iranian diva Parissa and later with Parviz Meshkatian and Mohammad Reza Lotfi, amongst other renowned musicians. Raissadat has given numerous performances around the world, and garnered invitations by prestigious institutions, including UNESCO, the Vatican, and international media such as BBC and Radiotelevisione Italiana. With five critically acclaimed albums to her credit, she is considered a key figure in the new generation of classical Persian vocalists.
