Dr. Farzad Khalvati is Associate Director of Iranian Digital Humanities with the Elahé Omidyar Mir-Djalali Institute of Iranian Studies. He is a Senior Scientist and Endowed Chair in Medical Imaging and Artificial Intelligence at the Hospital for Sick Children and University of Toronto. He is an Associate Professor of Medical Imaging and Computer Science at U of T, and a faculty affiliate at Vector Institute. His research interests include the design and deployment of AI algorithms for medicine using multi-modal data such as medical imaging and healthcare informatics. Dr. Khalvati has also a keen interest in the application and integration of AI to humanities in general, and specifically Iranian Studies. 

Dr. Khalvati has published 100 peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals and conference proceedings with additional 52 peer-reviewed scientific abstracts presented in different international conferences. He is a co-author of The Hidden Teachings of Rumi, a translation and commentary on a selection of Rumi’s Divan-e-Shams poetry. Dr. Khalvati has received over $3.6M in peer-reviewed research funding ($2.5M as PI and Co-PI) from different Canadian grant agencies including Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF), Canadian Cancer Society, and Brain Canada Foundation. As the primary supervisor, Dr. Khalvati has supervised over 65 trainees at different levels and his students have received over $250K in scholarships and awards.
