Osama Eshera is a PhD Candidate at the Institute of Islamic Studies, McGill University. His dissertation, under the supervision of Prof. Robert Wisnovsky, presents a comparative historical, textual, and philological study of the medieval manuscript traditions of two closely related treatises on metaphysics by Abū ʿAlī ibn Sīnā (d. 1037 CE), known also by his Latinized name, Avicenna. The dissertation is entitled: The Composition and Transmission of the Ilāhiyyāt of Avicenna’s Najāt and al-Mabdaʾ wa-al-maʿād: Critical Edition and Translation. His other publications touch on different aspects of the history of philosophy and science in the Islamic world in the classical and early post-classical periods.
