“I have been a team member at the Elahé Omidyar Mir-Djalali Institute of Iranian Studies since fall 2023. In this role, I have worked on various Iranian cinema and culture projects. One of the projects I have contributed to is the investigation of an actress interview series on YouTube. In this series, we engage with prominent Iranian actresses to learn about their experiences, insights, and contributions to the film industry. Additionally, I have been involved in the study of a film magazine focused on Iranian cinema. This magazine aims to showcase Iranian filmmakers’ diverse talents and achievements. Furthermore, I have worked on a project highlighting the life and career of a cinema superstar. I have delvedded into their influential work and impact on the Iranian film landscape. In these capacities, I have conducted research to ensure the quality and accuracy of the materials produced.
It has been a wonderful experience to work as part of a team at the Institute. Notably, I am most proud of our collaborative efforts in studying the actress interview series on YouTube. We managed to review interviews with distinguished Iranian actresses who graciously shared their personal stories and perspectives. Through these interviews, we shed light on the struggles, triumphs, and contributions of these remarkable individuals. This fosters a deeper appreciation for the art of Iranian cinema and the talented women within it. This experience has taught me the importance of amplifying diverse voices and narratives, as well as the power of storytelling in promoting cultural understanding and appreciation.
Further, I have personally benefited from my time at the Institute in several ways. I have developed and refined many critical skills, including research skills, event planning and content creation. Through my involvement in archival research, I honed my ability to navigate and extract valuable information from diverse sources. This deepened my understanding of Iranian cinema history and culture. Additionally, my experience in content creation for the actress interview series and the film magazine provided me with valuable insights into publishing, web-design, and publicity.
These skills have proven invaluable in other areas of my career. I have applied my research skills to other projects, such as academic research papers or industry reports. In these projects, attention to detail and critical analysis are crucial. Furthermore, my proficiency in content creation has allowed me to effectively communicate my ideas and showcase my work on various online platforms. This has expanded my professional network and visibility. Moreover, witnessing the impact of collective research and collaborative efforts within the Institute has reinforced my belief in the power of interdisciplinary work and the significance of cultural exchange.
Overall, the Elahé Omidyar Mir-Djalali Institute of Iranian Studies stands as an exemplary institution that plays a pivotal role in promoting Iranian cinema and culture. It is not only a valuable place of learning but also a vibrant community that fosters collaboration, creativity, and cultural exchange. The Institute serves as a beacon, showcasing how academic scholarship can connect communities and address significant issues in the world. This is done through the exploration, cultivation, and fostering of the arts and humanities. By delving into Iranian cinema’s rich history, the Institute contributes to the preservation and dissemination of cultural heritage. It fosters dialogue and mutual understanding. Its commitment to research, education, and community outreach sets a remarkable example of how institutions can actively engage with diverse audiences. It inspires creative perspectives, and bridge gaps between different cultures. The Institute’s dedication to excellence, its impact on scholarship, and its contributions to the broader field of Iranian studies make it a true leader in its field.”
